Overall:7
Offense:9 Defense:4 Projectile:0 Final Smash:7/8
Throwing:6 Recovery:5 Aerial:7 Speed:2
Ganondorf is one of the few mighty characters in the game. What he lacks in speed he makes up in power. He's one of the toughest characters to master, but can be one of the most brutal opponents when used correctly.
- Weight Class-Heavyweight
- Attack Tier-Top
- Sliding Ability-Low
Special Moves
Warlock Punch
A charged punch of dark energy that is almost identical to Captain Falcon's "Falcon Punch". Ganondorf charges his fist up and it starts emmitting dark energy. When it hits its opponent, it usually ends up in a KO. It's slightly faster than it was in Melee. Also, before fully unleashing it, Ganondorf can turn around so that the punch lands in the opposite direction. Read more in the advanced and expert sections.
Flame Choke
A move that replaced Ganondorf's Melee move "Gerudo Dragon". Ganondorf charges forward hand outstreched. If he makes contact with his opponent, he lifts them up and his hand makes an explosion of dark energy. If used in the air, it can be used for a suicide attack, or "Ganoncide". It can also be used as a side way recovery. Do not use this when going straight for an edge because it'll make you drop and plummet to death.
Dark Dive
Ganondorf's recovery move. It's a decent recovery move and has a couple attacks to go with it. One is that he grabs his opponent and electricutes them and pushes them away. The other attack that can happen is that an uppercut will strike an opponent in the way of Ganondorf's fist. Read more in the expert section.
Wizard's Foot
A sliding kick that emits dark energy. On the ground, Ganondorf slides leg outstreched. Used in the air, Ganondorf goes diagonally downward. Be careful not to use it over an edge because it'll shoot you straight to a lost life.
Final Smash: Beast Ganon
Type 2 KO Potential: 8/9 Rating:7/8
Ganondorf turns into the dark beast of the Triforce, becoming Beast Ganon. He roars ferociously and charges forward, tackling anything in his way. Be sure to line up with your opponent to hit them otherwise, you won't hit them. Also, if your opponent is on the ground under or near you when Ganon rears up, they will be smashed into the ground for an instant KO, almost every time. On smaller stages, this move will devistate. Simply get on the edge or end, line them up, and let loose. On bigger stages, you have to get your opponents close to the edge and then before letting loose.
Basic Strategies
When using Ganondorf, it's best to constantly be after your opponent. Keep attacking them with his strong attacks to build up damage. Always be chasing them, and whenever you knock them up in the air, run to where they will land to greet them.
Sidestep dodge and shield as much as you can to avoid harmful attacks since he is extremely slow.
A lot of Ganondorf's attacks are slow, so be sure to hit them; otherwise you might end up being hit instead. To counter this, make good use of his running standard attack. It's fast deploying, lasts for somewhat a long time, and really packs a punch.
Avoid small platforms like the one above. If knocked off even slightly, it'll be hard to avoid a death.
Advanced Strategies
Abuse Flame Choke and his regular standard attack(Gamecube controllers press A) in order to rack up damage. These activate quickly and both have range.
When opponents are on the edge, use a smash attack to send them flying. Using the side smash, you can use directional input to make his elbow thrust go in up or down diagionally. Another way to edge guard is to use your down aerial on them. (More on that in expert)
If your opponents is over 80% damage at any time, use a strong smash attack, Warlock Punch, or his strong up standard attack(lightly tap up and standard attack) to quickly finish them.
Before unleashing Warlock Punch, Ganondorf can turn around to hit the the opposite direction of which he started the attack. You have to hold the directional button in the opposite fairly quickly to make him turn. When ever he turns, the attack becomes more powerful. Make good use of this if you ever accidentally face the wrong way, or your opponent is falling on behind you of you.
Expert Strategies
Use repeated down aerials to rack up damage and kill quickly. If they are over the edge, use it to carefully meteor smash them to their death.
When things are looking in their favor, hit them with the dash attack (as touched upon in Basic Strategies) and jump up and use one of Ganondorf's aerials, possibly hitting them with two aerials if their damage is low.
As stated above, Warlock punch becomes more powerful whe you turn around with it. It may be tricky, but turning around every time you use it has great rewards. The key is to remind yourself to always be facing the opposite direction of where you want to hit when triggering the move. Practice turning while using his punch to get a feel for when you need to hold the directional button.
If you have more lives then your opponent, use Flame Choke when your opponent is over a cliff or in the air. You must in the air as well. Grab them with it and bring them down with you. Very helpful when they only have 1 life left.
1 on 1
It's easier to fight on stages like Final Destination. Charge at your opponents using your attacks, and dodge when necessary. It'll be harder if your opponent has projectiles because projectiles are Ganondorf's number one weakness.
Free for All
Stay away from the group until their damage is high. Go in and hit them with hard attacks and get some KOs. If you get caught in the group, use Wizard's Foot to get out.
Against
When fighting Ganondorf, it'll be easy to kill him if you have projectiles or are speedy. If you don't meet either of those methods, just dodge his big attacks and constantly attack him and use throws.
